Sogrape is among the first companies to join U Label, a digital platform for electronic labels for wine and spirits companies, which aims to increase consumer access to and transparency of information. Mateus was the brand chosen for the pilot project, and the first bottles with electronic labels will hit European markets in early 2022.

As part of its commitment to its Global Sustainability Program, Sogrape is the only Portuguese wine company among the first 15 to join the European project, which aims to increase the transparency of information provided to consumers and thereby promote more responsible consumption.

The new platform, promoted as a joint initiative by the Comité Européen des Entreprises Vins (CEEV) and spiritsEUROPE, allows companies in the wine and spirits sector to easily create electronic labels and provide consumers, via a QR code, relevant and transparent information in their own language. The digital labels display, among other things, the name, image, product category, country of origin, list of ingredients, nutritional information, and details about the product’s sustainability, as well as messages about responsible consumption.

“We are very proud to be one of the first companies to join the U-Label project. We work every day to inspire happier and more responsible lives. Through this platform, we will be able to provide more information to our consumers, combining wine tradition and culture with an innovative digital tool, in pursuit of a better and more transparent future,” explains Raquel Seabra, Director of Sogrape.

U-Label will be unveiled at a digital event on September 30, starting at 4:00 p.m., which can be viewed via the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY InyYFiqc. The pilot project kicks off with the Mateus brand, which will be the first to offer these electronic labels in European markets, starting in early 2022.
