Porto Ferreira and the Serralves Foundation are once again joining forces to celebrate two fundamental pillars of Portuguese culture: art and wine. As part of the “Serralves Collection on the Road” program, the exhibition “Linhas de Vento: Artistic Journeys in Nature” is on view at the Ferreira Cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia—an experience that invites visitors to explore new perspectives on the Douro region and its landscape through contemporary art.

Curated by Joana Valsassina, this group exhibition features works by four renowned artists—Ângelo de Sousa, Fernando José Pereira, Fernando Lanhas, and Richard Long—whose creations draw inspiration from nature and interaction with the outdoor environment. The exhibited pieces accompany the tour route through the cellars, establishing a subtle and surprising dialogue with the environment where some of the brand’s prestigious Port Wines have been aging for several decades. The presence of these works in the Ferreira Cellars reinforces the commitment of Sogrape and the Serralves Foundation to bringing art to new audiences, fostering cultural accessibility and promoting unexpected encounters between tradition and the contemporary.

This is the third time that Porto Ferreira has partnered with the Serralves Foundation as part of this project, which aims to bring the Foundation’s collection to unique locations throughout the country. In this edition, the exhibition “Linhas de Vento: Artistic Journeys in Nature” symbolically evokes the connection between the history of Port wine and the paths traced by Dona Antónia through the Douro landscape, in a fusion of memory, identity, and artistic creation. The experience thus adds a new dimension to a visit to the cellars, transforming it into a cultural and sensory experience that surprises both regular visitors and those discovering the space for the first time.
“This initiative reinforces the long-standing relationship between the Serralves Foundation and Sogrape. To see two forms of art—the art of aging wine and contemporary art —coexisting in a space as iconic as the Ferreira Cellars, paying homage to Dona Antónia and the Douro, is something that greatly honors and fills us with pride, as this is a company that has always valued and promoted culture,” says Raquel Seabra, Director of Sogrape.
The artworks are on display in various locations along the tour route, such as the Cruz Hall and the tasting room. During the visit, guests also have the opportunity to explore iconic spaces such as Dona Antónia’s House, where historical documents and personal items that evoke the life of one of the Douro region’s most remarkable figures are preserved, as well as an area entirely dedicated to Ferreira’s vintage heritage, spanning three centuries of history.
The exhibition “Linhas de Vento: Artistic Journeys in Nature” can be visited daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Ferreira Cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, upon purchase of a ticket for the cellar tour.
About Porto Ferreira:
Founded in 1751 by the Ferreira da Régua family, Porto Ferreira has remained in the hands of Portuguese families ever since.
The transformative period that led to the brand’s prosperity began when Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, a fourth-generation member of the founding family, took the helm of the business. With an unparalleled entrepreneurial spirit and tenacity, Antónia Adelaide Ferreira drove significant changes in the region and in the Port wine sector, whose milestones continue to be remembered and celebrated to this day. In honor of her legacy, the new bridge over the Douro River, which will connect Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, will bear her name, perpetuating her importance in the history of wine.
Acquired in 1987 by Sogrape, Porto Ferreira has successfully combined technological advancement with absolute respect for traditional methods and practices, ensuring the production of high-quality Port wine.

Collection Traveling Exhibitions Program
This presentation is part of the Serralves Collection’s Traveling Exhibition Program, which aims to promote the decentralization of culture by bringing contemporary artworks to communities outside major urban centers. In this way, the program encourages direct public engagement with renowned works from the Collection, allowing for new interpretations in each context where they are presented.
The Serralves Collection, comprising more than 5,600 works, includes pieces by national and international contemporary artists, reflecting the political, social, and cultural transformations from the 1960s to the present. The touring program offers the public the opportunity to engage with this vast collection, promoting the circulation of contemporary art and the involvement of artists and local
communities.
