Amid the vineyards and millennia-old olive groves of Herdade do Peso, a new vintage of Reserva Tinto is born. The 2019 vintage is the result of a more meticulous winemaking process and the very best that nature has to offer, elevating this new Reserva to a whole new level.
Combining tradition and innovation, grapes from the best plots were selected for the Herdade do Peso Reserva Tinto 2019. Touriga Nacional makes its debut in the blend, lending aromas of woodland flowers and reinforcing the structure with tannins and freshness. Alicante Bouschet, meanwhile, delivers intensity of color and fruit, while the remaining grape varieties enhance complexity and impart a sense of place.
“To create the new Reserve vintage, we used the finest ingredients nature has to offer, combined them with premium materials, and let time work its magic,” explains Luís Cabral de Almeida, Sogrape’s winemaker in the Alentejo. “The result is a surprising wine, with unique complexity and elegance.”
This release joins “Parcelas” and “Revelado,” two wines introduced in 2022, which make up Herdade do Peso’s permanent lineup. The three wines are the result of viticultural and winemaking efforts that begin in the vineyard—with the identification of soil types and the selection of grape varieties and clones best suited to the characteristics of each plot—and conclude in the winery. Conceived under the leadership of Luís Cabral de Almeida, these wines respect nature and uniquely express the unparalleled variety of terroirs at Herdade do Peso.
Alongside the other two wines in the range, Herdade do Peso Reserva 2019 features a new label design that highlights the nature of the Alentejo. The label, in shades of white and gray, highlights the wine’s origin in gold. This change reflects Herdade do Peso’s positioning as a symbol of modernity and authenticity.
With remarkable complexity and structure, Herdade do Peso Reserva Red 2019 was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and casks and is ready to drink, though it will also benefit from further aging in the bottle for several years.
