Winners will be announced on November 11
In recognition of the proven quality of his work in producing the finest Douro and Port wines, Luís Sottomayor has been nominated in the Winemaker of the Year category at the Wine Enthusiast 2021 Wine Star Awards.
With a career spanning more than three decades marked by success, Luís Sottomayor has led, since 2007, Sogrape’s Douro winemaking team, crafting wines that have become true icons of the region and the country, from Barca-Velha to the famous Port Vintages from Ferreira and Sandeman’s Tawnies.
Although his professional career has taken him to other national and international wine regions, his commitment to the Douro and Port wine earned him, in 2010, the Fortified Wines Winemaker of the Year award, presented by Revista de Vinhos, one of the most prestigious Portuguese publications. In 2012, he was nominated for Winemaker of the Year at the renowned International Wine Challenge and was honored as Winemaker of the Year by Revista de Vinhos in 2012 and 2017. Always in pursuit of the perfect wine, Luís takes on the challenge of surpassing himself with each harvest, an ambition that has already led three of his wines to earn 100 points from *Wine Enthusiast* over the past five years.
Now in their 22nd edition, the Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Awards are one of the most important international awards in the wine industry, presented annually to individuals and companies that have contributed most to the sector.
