Casa Ferreirinha unveils a new expression of the Upper Douro with Callabriga Branco 2025

Thirty years after the birth of Callabriga, Casa Ferreirinha presents the first white wine in the range, crafted from high-altitude vineyards.

Casa Ferreirinha presents Callabriga Branco 2025, a white wine that embodies the identity of the Upper Douro and the work carried out by Casa Ferreirinha in the region’s highest-altitude areas.

Thirty years after the launch of the first Callabriga red, this new wine continues the same vision: to interpret the character of the Upper Douro through its grape varieties, its different terroirs, and viticulture that is constantly evolving.

Over the past few decades, Casa Ferreirinha has been studying the potential of the Upper Douro’s high-altitude vineyards. This work took on a new dimension beginning in 2017, with the acquisition, planting, and restoration of vineyards in the region’s highest areas.

Callabriga Branco 2025 is made from grapes sourced from Quinta da Muxagata, acquired in 2020, with vineyards reaching an altitude of 500 meters, and from Tapada do Castanheiro, acquired in 2017, where vineyards reach up to 600 meters.

“When we first began thinking about this wine, we knew it wasn’t enough to simply make a white Callabriga. We had to find our own unique expression—one that would showcase the freshness and elegance of the white grape varieties from our high-altitude vineyards, without losing the identity of the Upper Douro. It’s very inspiring to see a new generation—with Lourenço Charters as winemaker and Fernando Agulló Guedes as part of the family—challenge us, bring new ideas, and make us look at a region we’ve known for so many years in a different light. “Callabriga Branco also stems from this dialogue between experience and a new way of thinking about the Douro,” says Winemaker Luís de Sottomayor.

Produced from Rabigato (35%), Viosinho (30%), Gouveio (20%), and Arinto (15%), Callabriga Branco 2025 aged for about eight months in oak barrels, mostly new.

With a bright citrus-yellow color, it offers an elegant and complex profile, marked by aromas of white fruits, orange blossom, and citrus notes. On the palate, it reveals body and freshness, with well-integrated oak and a long, precise finish.

With a limited edition of 8,371 bottles, Callabriga Branco 2025 opens a new chapter in Callabriga’s history and reaffirms Casa Ferreirinha’s ability to continue discovering new expressions of the Upper Douro.

About Casa Ferreirinha

Casa Ferreirinha, an integral part of the Sogrape family since its acquisition in 1987, is a pioneer and leader in Douro wine production, boasting a rich legacy spanning more than 250 years. At a time when the region was devoted almost exclusively to the production of Port wine, Casa Ferreirinha became renowned for its unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation, producing some of Portugal’s most prestigious wines, celebrated for their exceptional quality and limited releases, including the iconic Barca-Velha. Among the more than 600 hectares of vineyards it owns in the Douro, Quinta da Leda, located in the Upper Douro, stands out. On this estate, surrounded by the Douro River and the Ribeira de Aguiar, just a few kilometers from the Spanish border, Casa Ferreirinha’s most iconic wines are born.
