Porto Ferreira Vintage 2024 tops the North American publication’s annual selection of wines for aging, a distinction of great significance for Sogrape and for Portuguese wine.
Porto Ferreira has once again earned recognition from Wine Enthusiast, this time with the 2024 Vintage taking first place in the Top 100 Cellar Selections, the annual selection by the U.S. magazine dedicated to wines with the greatest aging potential. Awarded 99 points, the Porto Ferreira Vintage 2024 is also the only Portuguese wine to make the list, topping a ranking that brings together wines from different regions and categories around the world—an extraordinary distinction for Porto Ferreira, Sogrape, and Portuguese wine.
Produced only in years of exceptional harvests, the Vintage is the ultimate expression of Port wine and one of its most prestigious categories. Porto Ferreira Vintage 2024 captures the unique character of the vintage in a wine of great depth, marked by floral notes, red fruits, and spices, enveloped by balsamic and mineral hints that lend it complexity and aging potential.

The Top 100 Cellar Selections annually recognizes wines selected by Wine Enthusiast for their aging potential in the bottle. Bringing together wines from different regions and categories around the world, the ranking serves as a benchmark for connoisseurs and collectors of age-worthy wines.
“The Porto Ferreira Vintage 2024 is a wine of exceptional quality that faithfully captures the character of the harvest from an exceptional year in the Douro and also reflects Ferreira’s style, marked by harmony and elegance. It has depth, balance, and great complexity, but above all, the structure and aging potential we seek in a great Vintage. Achieving first place in Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Cellar Selections is a very special recognition of this wine’s quality and the meticulous work of the entire team that brought it to life,” says Luís de Sottomayor, Director of Oenology for Douro and Port Wines.
For Sogrape, winning first place takes on a particularly significant meaning: in addition to recognizing the excellence of Porto Ferreira, it places a Portuguese Port wine at the top of an international selection that brings together some of the world’s greatest age-worthy wines.
“This distinction holds a very special meaning for us. Ferreira occupies a very special place in Sogrape’s history and, naturally, in our family’s as well, but above all, it is part of the history of the Douro and Port wine. Seeing the Porto Ferreira Vintage 2024 take first place in an international selection of this magnitude is a source of immense pride for Sogrape and a recognition of the excellence of Portuguese wine. It reinforces our commitment to continuing to cherish this legacy, honoring its history and passing it on to future generations,” says Fernando da Cunha Guedes, President of Sogrape.
Founded in 1751, Porto Ferreira is the only major Port wine brand that has remained Portuguese throughout its entire history, with an identity deeply rooted in the Douro and Portuguese wine. This new distinction cements its place among the leading international Port wines and continues a track record of excellence with Wine Enthusiast, which had previously awarded the Porto Ferreira Vintage 2018 100 points—the publication’s highest rating.
About Porto Ferreira
Founded in 1751 by the Ferreira da Régua family, Porto Ferreira has remained in the hands of Portuguese families ever since. The transformative period that led to the brand’s prosperity began when Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, a fourth-generation member of the founding family, took the helm of the business.
With an unparalleled entrepreneurial spirit and tenacity, Antónia Adelaide Ferreira drove significant changes in the region and in the Port wine sector, whose milestones continue to be remembered and celebrated to this day. In honor of her legacy, the new bridge over the Douro River, which will connect Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, will bear her name, perpetuating her importance in the history of wine.
Acquired in 1987 by Sogrape, Porto Ferreira has successfully combined technological advancement with absolute respect for traditional methods and practices, ensuring the production of high-quality Port wine.
