The Série Ímpar is unique, but the challenge continues. Thus was born the second edition of a project that challenges Sogrape’s winemaking team to create original, top-quality wines.
Série Ímpar Retorto 2018 is a white wine with great freshness, purity, and complexity, the result of a blend dominated by Arinto, Roupeiro, Bical, Fernão Pires, and Tamarez. Sourced from a small plot of old, twisted vines trained in the goblet style in the Serra de São Mamede, in Portalegre, this wine reflects the potential of a region renowned for its biodiversity and for producing wines with strong personalities—symbols of Portuguese winemaking culture.
After surprising everyone in 2019 with the launch of the Série Ímpar brand and the introduction of a Sercialinho from Bairrada, Sogrape is now launching the second installment of a series that reflects the company’s ability to tell new stories, in this case giving the team the freedom to shape the narrative in their own image and present a final product of excellence. “The challenge is set for our winemakers, but in this scenario, we all win, contributing to the history of a company that has always been founded, after all, on the ability to innovate, surprise, and be bold,” explains Fernando da Cunha Guedes, President of Sogrape.
The Sogrape winemaker responsible for the Alentejo region is the one behind this new response to the challenge set by Fernando da Cunha Guedes himself. “Retorto”—because it comes from very old vines, twisted by the years, at an altitude of 640 meters—the new Série Ímpar is the result of a passion for nature and a quest for originality that drives Luís Cabral de Almeida and his team. “I have a deep fascination with the Alentejo, and Portalegre is a region whose natural conditions have presented me with new challenges. Here, I began working with different grape varieties and was able to craft wines with the precision of a goldsmith using old vines, which are a treasure for any wine professional.”
