Château Los Boldos Wines Earn 91 Points from Robert Parker in *The Wine Advocate*
The website of Robert Parker, a renowned international wine critic, has just awarded a score of 91 points to the Château Los Boldos Speciality Series Dry Rosé 2020 and Château Los Boldos Speciality Series Touriga Nacional 2019. These wines are the result of Sogrape’s first production of Touriga Nacional on Chilean soil through Viña Los Boldos, reflecting a clear commitment to diversity and experimentation in other production regions.
“We are extremely pleased with the recognition these two wines have received. This is the first culmination of a pioneering process that began in 2008 to introduce Touriga Nacional to Chile and has shown us that we still have enormous potential to explore,” explains Meinard Jan Bloem, winemaker at Viña Los Boldos. “With these results in our very first year of production, we have high expectations and a great sense of responsibility for the coming years,” he says.
The most renowned national grape variety was introduced to Chilean viticulture by Sogrape in 2015, with a small plot of 0.22 hectares, and today accounts for a total of 2.83 hectares of Touriga Nacional at Viña Los Boldos. After three years of strict quarantine, required by SAG—Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero—for the introduction of new grape varieties, Viña Los Boldos planted its first plot of Touriga Nacional in 2015. This represents a true commitment to the quality, versatility, and potential of this Portuguese grape variety, fueled by the similarities between the Dão—where the variety originates—and Requínoa—the Andean region of the Cachapoal Valley where Sogrape’s Chilean winery is located.
