LOURENÇO CHARTERS RETURNS TO SOGRAPE
Casa Ferreirinha, a name synonymous with the history of Douro DOC wines, announces the return of Lourenço Charters to Sogrape to strengthen the winemaking team for Douro wines, led by Luís de Sottomayor.
Since its founding more than 70 years ago, only three winemakers have led the winemaking team at Casa Ferreirinha: Fernando Nicolau de Almeida, the visionary behind the iconic Barca-Velha; José Maria Soares Franco; and, since 2007, Luís de Sottomayor. These are names that are part of this House’s living history and who, throughout the 1990s, even worked together, ensuring the continuity of an unparalleled winemaking legacy.
Lourenço Charters now joins this distinguished group by becoming part of Luís de Sottomayor’s team. The winemaker, who has experience in France, South Africa, and Australia, and who had previously worked at Sogrape between 2020 and 2021, is now returning to the company to devote himself exclusively to the Douro and help establish Casa Ferreirinha as
an indispensable reference in the Portuguese wine scene.
