International recognition highlights Sogrape as a global leader in water management and the conservation of nature and biodiversity.

Sogrape has just published its 2024 Sustainability Report, which reflects the Portuguese wine industry leader’s ongoing commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) transformation as part of its Global Sustainability Program — Seed the Future. The year was marked by significant international distinctions, such as the Water Management Award at the Drinks Business Green Awards and the inclusion of the Nature and Biodiversity Strategy in the global “It’s Now for Nature” campaign, promoted by Business for Nature.
Paving the Way for a Healthier Planet
In 2024, Sogrape significantly strengthened its environmental efforts, achieving remarkable results in water management and the preservation of nature and biodiversity. In addition to these international recognitions, the company reduced its total greenhouse gas emissions by 13.5% compared to 2021, with a 23.2% decrease in emissions associated with electricity (Scope 2). In the area of the circular economy, 97.89% of waste was redirected for reuse or recycling, supporting a more efficient and sustainable operation.

Preserving our legacy on the journey toward the future
The areas of Innovation and Research & Development (R&D) remain fundamental to Sogrape’s sustainability strategy. In 2024, the company had more than 30 active R&D projects, consolidating its role as a driver of innovation in the wine sector.
Among these projects, LIVINGSOILL stands out, in which Sogrape participates in the European Union’s “Mission Soil” initiative through the creation of two Living Laboratories in Portugal, focused on the regeneration of agricultural soils. Participation in the UBEES Project also proved strategic, with the installation of smart beehives that monitor biodiversity and ecosystems in vineyard areas, contributing to more sustainable, science-based agricultural practices.
In addition to these advances, Sogrape further strengthened its commitment to sustainable solutions, having also made the first investment from the Sogrape Ventures fund, focused on innovative technologies for managing glass and aluminum packaging waste.

Inspiring Happier and More Sustainable Lives
The social dimension of sustainability remains a priority for Sogrape. In 2024, the company strengthened its role in the communities where it operates through initiatives that promote well-being, capacity building, social inclusion, and community engagement. Among the initiatives carried out, highlights include 70 hours of corporate volunteer work and support for educational programs, scholarships, and training initiatives, in partnership with various organizations and educational institutions. In the area of environmental awareness, the “A Story to Preserve” campaign resulted in the collection of more than 4,700 cork stoppers for recycling, raising awareness among consumers and partners about the importance of the circular economy.
“2024 was a year of renewed purpose and progress with real impact. Sustainability is now an essential part of our identity, guiding decisions and inspiring change in every region where we operate. Every step we take—whether in protecting biodiversity, managing water responsibly, pursuing regenerative innovation, or supporting our communities—is a seed of transformation,” says Mafalda Guedes, Director of Corporate Communications and Sustainability and a fourth-generation member of the founding family. “As a member of the fourth generation of Sogrape’s founding family, I carry the vision of those who came before us with pride and hope. This legacy, combined with the spirit of ‘Sograpiness,’ drives us to create a more resilient, responsible, and inclusive future,” concludes the spokesperson.
