Ímpar Pinheiro da Cruz Series: a rare wine, born where you least expect it

Produced from a vineyard located at the Pinheiro da Cruz Correctional Facility, this is one of the most unlikely—and certainly most remarkable—projects currently underway in the world of wine.

Sogrape presents the Série Ímpar Pinheiro da Cruz, a high-quality rosé with a distinct Portuguese character, produced within the Pinheiro da Cruz Correctional Facility, in Carvalhal—an unexpected setting that gives rise to one of the most unique editions in the Série Ímpar collection.

The result of a challenge issued by the Guedes family, through its President, Fernando da Cunha Guedes, to the winemaking team, the Série Ímpar is a project that invites us to explore new territories—both geographical and conceptual—and to transform unlikely realities into wines of excellence.

“For several years, I’ve dreamed of making a wine in Pinheiro da Cruz. The uniqueness of the place, its natural beauty, and the social context make it truly one-of-a-kind. Today, with the right conditions in place, we have a wine that reflects that ambition—combining social responsibility, appreciation for the region, and a high-quality final product,” comments Fernando da Cunha Guedes, President of Sogrape.

This strategic vision is complemented by the concrete expression of the terroir and winemaking: “The 19-hectare vineyard is planted on sandy soils just 2 km from the sea, under a strong Atlantic influence, which has allowed us to develop a profile of great freshness and balance, while also being highly gastronomic,” explains winemaker Luís Cabral de Almeida.

The Série Ímpar Pinheiro da Cruz 2025 is a deep, structured rosé—perhaps even somewhat unconventional—resulting from a blend of Castelão (50%), Aragonês (35%), and Syrah (15%). Its intense color and fuller body result from prolonged skin contact, enhanced by manual pressing in a vertical press. Part of the batch (15%) completed fermentation in used French oak barrels, adding complexity and texture.

More than just a wine, this bottle embodies a collective project. From vineyard to bottle, the entire process was developed in close collaboration between the teams at Sogrape and the Pinheiro da Cruz Correctional Facility.

The Série Ímpar Pinheiro da Cruz thus seeks to reveal a side of a prison that is often unseen: the potential for rehabilitation and building a future.

To mark the wine’s launch, Sogrape is partnering with JNcQUOI for the exclusive sale of the Série Ímpar Pinheiro da Cruz, given its strong connection to the region and ongoing investment in the region’s development and support.
